The project

A full renovation and extension that turned a tired family home into an open plan house with two new claddings and a simpler roof.

The brief

Give the home a fresh, modern look with an open plan layout, more space for a growing family, and a finish that feels considered throughout.

Dark Secret started with the full removal of the existing cladding and remediation of the framing underneath, so the new exterior went onto a sound structure. Two complementary claddings and new double glazed joinery changed the look of the house and how it performs.

Inside, the layout was reworked for open plan living. Extensions added bedrooms and living space for a growing family, and the complex six-elevation roof was simplified into a cleaner form.

The kitchen, dining and master bedroom were finished to Level 5, the highest plasterboard standard, which the dark finish needed to look right under light.
