The project
A U-shaped home around a central pool, designed by an architectural designer for their own family on a tight Papamoa site.
This home was designed by an architectural designer for their own family, so precision and function mattered from the first drawing.
The site is tight. The U-shaped plan wraps around the pool, which connects the indoor and outdoor living areas and brings light and privacy into the centre of the house.
A red cedar-lined walkway leads to the front door and into the main feature: a cedar batten ceiling with LED strip lighting built into it. Open plan living, dining and kitchen run off that space.
It is a good example of what careful design and a builder who follows the drawings can do with a constrained site.
